should we care?!

Millions of Good Reasons Why We Should Take Care How Much We Flush!

Do we honor God, children, ourselves and our water supplies, when we look at the fact that 4,500 little children have their lives extinguished daily, due to the lack of a glass of clean water? We ask the question about “honor” not because we living in LA, are blessed enough to be borne and live in a First-world country, with clean water supplies, but because there are so many people throughout the world who quite simply don’t. These numbers are horrific, they mean – one life every 20 seconds is taken because of water-borne illness.
What we do tend to do however, is take our water supply for granted, when we should be humbling ourselves, giving thanks and treating water with great respect. 80% of all disease world-wide is related to a lack clean sanitation. The lack of safe water is a global humanitarian crisis. Information which is only the very tip of one of the unhealthiest icebergs we know.
Are you ready yet to look at ways to save water? Let’s face it, getting innovative with water savings, not only makes us feel good about ourselves, it can also be fun and innovation leads to invention, which ultimately may help with the global water crisis. As we were talking about what a problem global sanitation is, let’s go extreme green and talk about the toilet.
The toilet accounts for, give-or-take, 30% of indoor water consumption in homes; they are also the most major source of leaks and wasted water. The WaterSense program is EPA sponsored program which assists consumers in finding the right high performance toilet. Yes, toilets can be high performers too, especially if they are water-efficient. So if you need to find a new toilet or replace an old unit, think about preserving our water resources first, and not about how cute that “pink” crapper will look in your antique bathroom.
Superior toilet performance due to new advancements shows, that WaterSense labeled units use 20% less water than contemporary federal standard units. They also offer superior performance and are independently laboratory testing to meticulous criteria. Replacing old toilets with new models has been proven to save as much as 4,000 gallons a year, by simply making a green living choice.
There are also some brilliant new units available with a hand basin set into the cistern, so, as the user washes their hands, the water from the basin runs down and fills the cistern too. Check out these unique units at http://www.livingreen.com, it is called the “Caroma Profile Smart Dual Flush Set”; it is space saving too, and carries that all-important WaterSense label.
If we are to count the amount of times we flush the toilet over a lifetime, this adds up to 140,000 times, don’t ask how researchers got to that number – they have their ways and means. If the Caroma Profile cost $700 then replacing two toilets in the home will cost less than $1,400 (these are on sale at the moment – less 15%). Each new toilet will save over $2,000 in water bills over the lifetime of the loo, plus the all important 4,000 gallons of water a year.
Utility companies may even have a discount system in place to save even more money for home owners who are replacing those old crappy toilets; especially units which were  installed before 1992! The performance is just as good; in many instances better, and if every home in the US used WaterSense labeled toilets, we could save 640 billion gallons of water annually – this amount is the equivalent of over two weeks worth of Niagara Falls water flow!
